The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes the US$90 entry visa as available online, at Bujumbura airport and at embassies. Burundi’s embassy in Ottawa, however, states that it is currently impossible to get a visa at the airport. Because of that conflict, do not rely on a visa on arrival.

Best Time to Visit Burundi

- Lake Tanganyika: The lake's beaches are enjoyable year-round with water temperatures of 24-29C. The best months for water activities are June-September and December-January.

- Currency: Burundian Franc (BIF) is the local currency. ATMs are available in Bujumbura but limited elsewhere. US Dollars are accepted at hotels and some restaurants. Credit card acceptance is very limited outside major hotels.
- Transportation: Bujumbura Melchior Ndadaye International Airport (BJM) is the main gateway. Taxis are available in Bujumbura — negotiate the fare before starting. Buses and shared taxis connect Bujumbura to other towns. The road network is limited.
